Resolutions? Win in 2010!
Greetings 2010,
So another year has ended and ready or not here comes not only a new year but a new decade. It seems that some of the most popular resolutions for us all are ones concerning our health. I know that from a quick survey of my friends, their resolutions range anywhere from eating better to adding more physical activity to their day and a few are even ready to quit smoking.
Well this is my note to 2010 the New Year to show that this year I’m going to commit to the resolutions I make, I have big plans in 2010 and I know that I can’t do that by just being awesome. It’s really going to take work and a commitment to being healthier so that I can be my best. For 2010 I have a simple plan formula for achieving my resolutions…5, 2, 1, almost none.
New Years Resolution #1: I’m going to work on eating healthier. That’s right I’m committing to 5 or more fruits/veggies a day. Well at least that’s what I’m going for… This doesn’t mean that I’m going to completely eliminate burgers. But it does mean that I’ve got to start planning. I’ve got to start packing veggies and fruits as snacks.
Here are a few quick tips to fill your diet with fruits and vegetables
Include two fruits or vegetables in every meal.
Order your sandwiches with lettuce, tomato, peppers, onions, or sprouts—or maybe with all of the above!
Chop up fruits and vegetables and store them in the fridge so they’re ready to eat.
Ask your parents to buy the fruits and vegetables you like so when you feel munchy, you’ve got plenty of options. Try a new fruit or vegetable every week!
Try peanut butter, low-fat dips and dressings, or low-fat cheese along with fruits and veggies.
Blend your favorite fruit with milk or frozen yogurt to make a smoothie
Add vegetables like broccoli, peppers, or tomatoes to your eggs or omelettes.
Try tomato slices on your breakfast bagel.Add berries, bananas, or other brightly colored fruits to cereal, pancakes, or waffles.
Pile veggies on your pizza—the possibilities are endless…sliced tomato, mushrooms, onions, peppers, broccoli, and spinach. Instead of plain salad (BORING!), add color and flavor with chopped apples, raisins, or mandarin oranges.
I’ve got a few more resolutions but for now I feel confident that I can start with adding some healthier foods to my daily routine.
